The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics seeks a Gastroenterologist with expertise in gut motility at the rank of Associate (non-track), Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor (tenure or non-tenure/clinical track). The individual selected will join the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Pancreatology and Nutrition to provide patient care, teaching, and consultative services primarily at the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, as well as at established outreach clinics across the State of Iowa. The Division has 9 other faculty engaged in clinical and basic science research, teaching and a full range of clinical activities, a well-established ACGME-accredited fellowship program, a strong collaboration with Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Radiology, Pediatric Anesthesia and a variety of other ancillary services.
The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is one of the top biomedical research institutions in the nation and ranked 42nd overall and 19th among public medical schools for NIH funding in FY18. The U.S. News and World Report research ranking places the College 15th among public institutions for 2018, and the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics ranked 24th overall and 12th in NIH funding among all public pediatric departments nationwide in FY18. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at the Children’s Hospital trains 47 pediatric residents.
The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics comprises the medical and research staff of University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, one of the nation’s top-ranked pediatric care and research institutions. It is the only university-affiliated hospital in Iowa devoted solely to the care of infants, children, adolescents and young adults, and is Iowa’s only accredited Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center. In 2019-2020 University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital ranked in six pediatric specialties in the Best Children’s Hospitals U.S. News and World Report and is the only hospital in Iowa to be nationally ranked by U.S. News and World Report for children’s care. Inpatient care and endoscopic procedures are provided at the brand new 189-bed State-of-the art Children’s Hospital. A newly renovated outpatient clinic has opened in August 2017.
Many of our faculty are leaders in their fields and are members of prestigious national and international organizations, including the Society of Pediatric Research, the American Pediatric Society, the American Board of Pediatrics, and the Institute of Medicine, among others. Requirements
Must hold an MD/DO degree, or equivalent
Board certified or eligible in Pediatrics, or equivalent
Board certified or eligible in gastroenterology, or equivalent
Desirable Qualifications: License or eligible for licensure in the State of Iowa
Clinical experience in pediatric gastroenterology
Completed specialized training in motility and/or is proficient in the performance of motility procedures
Experience in patient-oriented research
Teaching competence in pediatrics for medical students and residents
Evidence of scholarly activity
Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
